Thermann Heat Pump Hot Water Review

Tim's Thermann Review

I recommend avoiding the Thermann units. As with most things from Reece, I feel they are overpriced. Although there aren’t many reviews, the units do not look reliable. With such a hefty price tag, I’m confident you’ll get better value for money with another unit.

Cost: Thermann units are overpriced

Reliability: The units do not look reliable. Reviews are poor and the warranty is weak

Refrigerant: The split units use carbon dioxide, which is a good refrigerant, but the all-in-ones use R-134a, which is terrible

Maintenance: Maintenance requirements are standard

Learn more about how I review units

Thermann is Reece’s ‘homebrand’ heat pump hot water unit.

There are two Thermann units

  • Split unit
  • All-in-one - made by Stiebel Eltron and there’s a strong argument to say they are the same unit.

There aren’t many reviews on Product Review (only 17), but they are not positive: 2.9 stars for the all-in-one unit.

I have often tried to speak to people at Thermann/Reece to verify details (as I do with all manufacturers), but I’m yet to hear a response. I suspect the people at Thermann simply try to piggyback off Reece’s huge distribution, rather than develop a quality unit.

  • I have tried to contact Thermann to verify the details above
  • Pleasingly the split unit uses carbon dioxide as the refrigerant. However, the all-in-one unit appears to use R-134a, which I’d expect to change if it hasn’t already as R-134a is being phased out.
