Rinnai’s Enviroflo is one to watch. I really like that it’s manufactured in Australia and comes with a solid warranty from a big company. My only concern is the price is a little high compared to other units on the market which are cheaper and we know are reliable. Reliability is probably the single most important factor when choosing a unit, and unfortunately we don’t have enough data on Rinnai’s Enviroflo.
➖ Cost: Envrioflo units are priced at the mid-market
❓ Reliability: There aren't many reviews to assess the reliability of Envirfolo units. The strong warranty and company backing is a good sign
✅ Refrigerant: Units use propane which is one of the best refrigerants on the market
✅ Maintenance: Maintenance requirements are standard

Rinnai’s Enviroflow is one of the few heat pump hot water units made in Australia. Yay! We like to support Australian manufacturing.
In fact I have visited the manufacturing facility in Braeside, Victoria and I have seen the units being built. Rinnai has plans to open more manufacturing facilities, in part due to the soaring demand for their heat pump hot water units.
Rinnai’s units are all-in-one and come in 4 different sizes: 180L, 215L, 250L, 315L.
As at October 2024, Rinnai is soon to announce a new heat pump (version 3). I hope to return to Braeside to further review and analyse the new version.
Rinnai Australia is a subsidiary of Rinnai Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate that manufactures a range of household appliances. Rinnai has been present in the Australian market for over 50 years.
Rinnai’s warranty is complicated. I prefer simple warranties that are easy for consumers to understand. But once you understand it, it’s pretty good.
Rinnai’s maintenance requirements are fairly standard, except they require replacing the TPR valve every 5 years. This is arguably a little over the top compared to other units.
Rinnai’s Enviroflo receives only 3 stars from 7 reviews on Product Review. I don’t think we can draw too many conclusions from this.
Rinnai’s heat pump hot water units should be considered by those that have hard water. Hard water is water that has higher than normal concentrations of minerals and elements which can lead to premature corrosion of the tank and unit. Rinnai’s ‘VMH’ models are equipped with hard water anodes to tackle the challenges posed by hard water environments.
