Apricus Heat Pump Hot Water Review

Tim's Apricus Review

Apricus unis are a solid offering for those looking for a mid-market all-in-one heat pump. The units tick most of the boxes, but having only launched in 2022, it's a little too early to tell whether they will be reliable over the long run.

Cost: Apricus units are affordable

Reliability: Apricus units have only been in market since 2022, so it's too early to tell whether they are reliable.

Refrigerant: Apricus units use propane

Maintenance: Units require very little ongoing maintenance.

Apricus comes in one size, a 260L all-in-one heat pump hot water unit.

Apricus Australia (the company) was launched in 2005 with a focus on solar hot water. Apricus is the sister-company of Reclaim and is effectively the all-in-one version of Reclaim's split unit. The Apricus units were introduced to the market in 2022.

Apricus units have only been in the market since 2022, so it's possibly a little too early to tell whether they are reliable. While I like that the company has been around for a long time, the warranty is a little underwhelming so I think a "?" for Reliability is appropriate. I expect that will increase to a tick over time, but for now, we need more user feedback.

Apricus units come with a 6 year warranty with a 1 year labour warranty. This is underwhelming, as the labour component of a warranty claim can be expensive, even if the user is not at fault.

Apricus units use propane as the refrigerant. Propane is one of the best refrigerants on the market in terms of low Global Warming Potential.

Apricus units require little maintenance. The units come with a sacrificial anode, which is designed to break down over time. All users need to do is check this every three years and replace if required. Apart from requiring users to operate the TPR valve every three months, which is standard, the Owners Manual mentions no need to service the unit. This is great for owners and means the running costs will be very low.
