Tim's EvoHeat Review
EvoHeat is an interesting proposition. The clear positive is they have strong reviews from happy customers, so there’s every chance you’ll be a happy customer too. I wouldn’t try to dissuade someone from buying an EvoHeat, but I don’t actively recommend them - there are too many concerns for me. The warranty should be stronger, the refrigerant used is terrible, the maintenance requirements are too onerous and I think other units on the market offer better value.
➖ Cost: EvoHeats are priced at the mid-market, but for me, are too expensive for what they offer
✅ Reliability: The clear positive of EvoHeats is they are well reviewed and like by users
❌ Refrigerant: EvoHeats use a terrible refrigerant, R-134a which has a global warming potential of 1,430
➖ Maintenance: Most other units on the market require a service at 5 years, but Evoheat require one every 3 years, which is more onerous and will drive up the cost in the long run.

EvoHeat units come in three sizes: 150L, 270L and 315L. The 270L unit is their best seller.
EvoHeat makes a variety of products including pool heaters, heat pump hot water units and commercial air conditioners. They claim "with over 15 years' experience in providing energy efficient heating and cooling solutions, we are the largest and most experienced Australian supplier of heat pump technology." I like that EvoHeat has been around since 2009 - a long track record suggests they are likely to be around to honour any warranty claims.
EvoHeats receive an impressive 4.8 on Product Review. Reviews aren't perfect but I place a great deal of weight on them. For example, 850 reviews is more valuable than a random plumber's opinion or your mother-in-law's opinion. I think this is a good sign.
The warranty provided by EvoHeat is underwhelming. 6 years for the tank is good, but 1 year for labour is low. This means that if your unit has issues in year 2, you will need to pay for a plumber to attend, diagnose and fix the unit (you don't pay for parts, but you pay for the plumber's time, which is expensive).
EvoHeat's maintenance requirements are more onerous than other units on the market. The market standard is a self-service every 12 months and a professional service every 5 years. EvoHeat require a self-service every 12 months, but a professional service every 3 years by a qualified EvoHeat personnel. This is a warranty requirement. These extra services will drive up the cost of the unit in the long run.
