Tim's Enviroheat Review
The Enviroheat heat pump hot water unit is a serious contender. It ticks most of the boxes, but I could never give it my full recommendation while it’s using such a poor refrigerant. If you don't see this as a big issue, Enviroheat is worth considering.
✅ Cost: Enviroheat units are affordable
✅ Reliability: Units are well reviewed, but I’d like to see the warranty improved
❌ Refrigerant: Enviroheat units use R-134a, which has a global warming potential of 1,430 and is terrible for the environment
✅ Maintenance: Maintenance requirements are standard

Enviroheat units comes in two tank sizes: 200L and 250L
The website claims that Enviroheat is made by the world’s largest appliance manufacturer, has been manufactured for over a decade and is the world’s biggest selling heat pump.
Enviroheat is distributed by Energy Group Australia
Enviroheat’s unit receives an impressive 4.6 out of 5 on Product Review. Pleasingly a number of reviews cite excellent customer service.
Enviroheat’s maintenance requirements are good. The manual clearly explains what’s required (which is not always the case!). A major service is required every 5 years. The TPR valve should be released every six months (which no one ever does).
Enviroheat’s warranty is poor - it is the bare minimum. Many government rebates require products to have a 5-year minimum warranty, which has effectively set a floor for the market. Enviroheat is sitting on the floor. A 1 year Labour warranty means that if you have an issue in year 2, you’ll be charged to have someone attend and diagnose the unit. Plumbers aren’t cheap so this can quickly add up, even more than the cost of the original unit. If warranty is a measure of the manufacturer’s conviction in the reliability of their units, this doesn’t bode well for Enviroheat.

- I have contacted Enviroheat to confirm the details above
- Noise levels at 46 dB are slightly higher than normal, but not really a concern. Units should be run during the day and 46 dB is lower than most air conditioning units.
